Spring Is Almost Here!!!!

Okay, I know it’s only February, but it is almost March and that means it’s almost spring! I have to say that spring is my absolute favorite time of the year. I just think that it’s so refreshing; you start waking up to sunny days and the early morning songs of the birds sitting outside of your window and it just feels good after a long, cold winter. So, needless to say, I’m super excited about this time of year, and I can’t wait to go shopping for the season because, although I love the eclectic mixtures of style that are created all year long, I think my favorite fashion-time-of-year is definitely spring.

It may be hard for many of you to think about this so soon, but come on, it’s kind of hard to ignore. The stores are already displaying bathing suits! Now, I’m not about to skip that far into the future, because that would just make me sad to think about since I still have to wait so long until it’s warm enough out to swim and sunbathe, but I will, however, attempt to excite you and give you a little preview of what I’ll be wearing come mid-March.

One of the biggest things about this time of year that gets me going in terms of fashion is all of the color. I tend to, during the winter, dress in a lot of dark, neutral tones and although I love blacks and browns, it starts to make me feel a little drab after a while and it’s right around this time of year, as winter is slowly but surely fading away and the warm sun is beginning to peek its head through the clouds, that I start to crave some color in my wardrobe. So, I’m eagerly anticipating all of the bright reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, greens and blues that are about to make their way back into my closet! I don’t know if I would call my self a girly-girl per say, but make no mistake, I am a female, and so it’s almost as if it’s imbedded into my DNA to like some shade of pink, purple, yellow, etc. So, come warm weather I take full advantage of wearing colors that I wouldn’t dare don during the dismal days of winter.

I think if I had to pick my absolute, no questions asked, never-fail-to-look-cute, almost-any-occasion outfits, it would certainly be a light summer dress with either a pair of flip-flops or sandals – hardly any make up and simple, easy-going hair. No fuss; just clean, quick and painless. And so during the month of April, pretty much straight through August, for the most part, that’s what you’ll find me in. The thing about it is, is that it’s just so damn easy. I feel like in the winter it takes so much work to create a good look. You have to layer, and coordinate colors and find a great pair of shoes; and let’s not forget about the hair. It’s cold out, so odds are it’s almost always going to be down to cover your neck or plastered under a hat to hide how hideous it looks during the wet, rainy and snowy days of the winter season. Don’t get me wrong, there plenty of things about winter that I love. I think it’s great to cozy up in a warm chunky sweater with a great pair of slippers, I love being out in the snow and heading to the mountains for the weekend for a quick snowboarding trip and I love laying in bed all day and just letting time pass you by without feeling like your wasting the day. But, to me, spring is a chance for a fresh start. It’s the time when everyone that’s been hibernating in the warmth of their homes all winter comes out to play!

Light cardigans, sweet dresses, flip flops and sandals; cool sunglasses, bright colored bags, scarves in your hair and barley and make-up; warm sunny days, fresh flowers in the yard, the chirping of birds and the buzzing of bees; what’s not to love? Well, here’s one more thing. Luckily for people like me who don’t care to spend a ridiculous amount of money on clothes (you wouldn’t think it from how much I love fashion, but I don’t think it needs to break the bank – be realistic!), spring time fashion is a lot more affordable than winter threads. Maybe it’s because designers use less material? To be honest, I haven’t got the slightest clue, but it makes me happy to know that I can run down to my local Target, TJ Max, Old Navy or even Marshall’s and get some great spring things. Of course there are, as always, a few important pieces that I’m willing to spend more money on such as a great pair of sunglasses (which is my big buy this year because I’m tired of wearing my $5 aviators from the Meadowlands Flea Market), a bright and cheery spring jacket or a fantastic carry-all bag, but for the most part, it’s easy-pickins and light on the wallet!

So, to wrap this all up, I’m going to tell you my favorite go-to store that I can’t wait to rummage through and gather up my new spring wardrobe from. This year it’s….Old Navy! The Spring 2008 Collection called Urban Explorer has completely caught my attention! The entire line revolves around the safari-look and I couldn’t possibly love it more. From the dress to the jumpsuit to the capri pants and the shoes - I love it all. And, best of all, almost everything is under $35. You can’t beat it!
