Extra Butter Is Open For Business!!!

You know, I have to admit, I wasn’t too crazy about driving all the way out to Long Island on the infamous Black Friday. All I could really picture was traffic, traffic, and more traffic. But thankfully, the powers that be were with me that night and the ride was quick and smooth. I was venturing out to Rockville Centre, NY to check out the grand opening of the newest sneaker store, Extra Butter. Owners Jason Faustino, Nick and Ankur Amin have come together to create a sleek and smooth sneaker freak haven in suburban New York, where collectors can come to pick up the latest and greatest in urban, hip-hop inspired foot wear.

The store, created to perfectly accompany the zestful sneaker designs that it showcases, is sleek and smooth and at least aesthetically appealing, if nothing else; but that’s not all. The walls are lined from top to bottom on either side with men’s and women’s hi-tops, low-tops, running shoes, slip-ons and more. Not only that, but they have a nice collection of clothing hanging on the walls too!

So, back to Black Friday; this was the night that the trio of owners decided to open; complete with a red carpet event that boasted a DJ and, of course my favorite thing, free booze! Though the place may be a bit tiny, it was filled with friends and avid collectors, all who came out to celebrate the birth of a new hot spot. For many, it’s a pain-in-the-ass hike over to NYC if you really want to find some dope kicks. But Faustino and the Amin bros have solved that problem. Extra Butter is conveniently located in Rockville Centre, NY, right around the corner from the train station and only about 30 minutes from Manhattan. They have brought to the area a NYC street vibe, without the NYC. Does that make sense? The point is that the store owners were looking to serve the Long Island community by providing them with a closer, local shop where they can pick up the latest in foot wear fashion.

They carry everything from Nike to Puma, New Balance, Adidas and more, as well as clothing by Only NY, Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak no Evil, Kiser and more – simply put, the store is no joke! Now, I happen to know a sneaker-head, otherwise I would honestly have no idea what I’m talking about here, but there’s one small catch; although Faustino and crew have a banging selection of kicks, they are yet to be the proud holders of a Tier-0 account with Nike. What that means, is that they would have exclusive access to some of the most sought-after, limited edition sneaker designs there are. However, Jason, Nick and Ankur certainly do display a worthy collection of kicks and gear that put them up there, and are confident that they will prove them selves as a credible account holder to Nike – so hopefully the coveted luxury will come to them soon.

In the midst of all the festivities, sneaker gazing, talking and drinking, I almost forgot that there was a party going on – that is until the music pumped up a bit and Extra Butter owner Jason Faustino and friends hit the dance floor. Suddenly the entire crowd was huddled in a circle, eyes locked on what was happening in the middle of it – so I had to get a peak. Jason, along with other party goers had broken into a full on break dancing phenomenon. They were spinning on the floor and holding crazy and extremely difficult looking poses. It was actually pretty cool to watch; I had never really seen a break dancing performance like that before. Faustino’s got some pretty good moves too; he can certainly add bad ass break dancer to his repertoire.

Almost everyone in the store was sporting a totally unique and well thought out style – you could just tell that these people have got what it takes to make it in the biz – because, not to sound like a cornball or anything, but it’s true that if you project an image of success and individuality, and you have the drive, you’re bound to make something great of your self, and Extra Butter certainly has the goods to gain the prize.

Extra Butter is located at 266 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre, NY. Check out their smooth and buttery kicks and their sleek and stylish store at myspace.com/extrabutterny or at extrabutterny.com.
